BC's Privatization Record

Document Actions
The current BC government has devised an unprecedented array of schemes to privatize public land, assets, institutions, and services. In its support of corporations, the government has scorned public service.

The privatization of public land, assets, institutions and services damages our environment and communities.

In some cases, "outsourcing" services and selling assets might make sense, but the leaders of this government is pursuing privatization as a matter of ideology, not sense. It is corporate interests, not the public interest, that guides their decisions.

The breadth and speed of the privatization schemes, and the lack of consulation with or even notice to the public about the agenda and undermines the democratic fabric of British Columbia.

Privatization is not new, of course. And it's not unstoppable. Dogwood Initiative has already succeeded in stopping corporations' attempts to take control of public lands.

And in the face of the current onslaught of privatization, we are, through bc4sale.org, raising awareness of privatization and the damage it is causing, and then to help concerned members of the public retake charge of the public interest.

We are developing an extensive record of the government's privatization efforts on the bc4sale website. In the meantime, we invite you to consider some of the more signficant examples of the privatization of lands & resources, of assets and institutions, and of government services.
