First Nations have strong unresolved claims to much of the land and reources of British Columbia.

Yet they continue to be excluded from land use decisions, while logging, energy extraction, and other land uses proceed at unsustainable rates.

The current BC government is accelerating the problem, creating laws that undermine recent First Nations court victories, increase corporate control and limit the options for accommodation of First Nations interests.

But powerful opportunities exist to stop the  pro-corporate agenda. Recent precedent-setting court decisions confirm the existence of Aboriginal title and rights over most lands in BC, and create opportunities to challenge the validity of resource tenures.

Dogwood Initiative is assisting First Nations partners across the province to end unsustainable development and corporate control.

We are working to create an alternative future, in which Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities benefit by jointly managing local lands.
