To pursue those solutions, we helped create the Coalition for Sustainable Forest Solutions to promote forestry solutions that solve the softwood dispute and address the needs of communities, workers, First Nations and the environment.
A huge, diverse coalition—well over one hundred municipalities, along with business and community associations, First Nations, and most major labour and environmental groups.
They all support the Coalition's core principles that would enable a community-centred economy and a sustainable environment.
Numerous groups and municipalities have endorsed the Forest Solutions for Sustainable Communities Act itself.
Our reforms would not only turn around and diversify the declining forestry industry. Experts have concluded that they would also solve the softwood lumber dispute outright.
As Maclean’s Magazine reported in 2003, our softwood solutions
“are based on a clear-headed analysis of what’s going on in the
woods”.
